Fratton Park Gets Arty
18 Oct 2011
Pupils from Mayville High School in Southsea visited Fratton Park for 2 hours on 4th October to paint their graffiti designs on the blank walls under the North Stand. The pupils were given the opportunity to design their own piece of graffiti, given instructions on how to use the spray paints to get the desired effect by Portsmouth Graffiti Artist, Fark and then they were let loose on the blank wall!
The visit was arranged as part of the Positively Portsmouth, Passport to Success project started by the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth, Councillor Cheryl Buggy. Two hundred Year 8 pupils from 14 secondary schools in the city have been selected to spend a year collecting experiences and earning stamps for their ‘Passports to Success’.
The pupils select from a menu of activities which allow them to earn their stamps. Activities include a team fundraising initiative, exploring careers opportunities in the city, conducting an interview with a business person to discover the secrets to their success, produce a programme to be broadcast on Express FM/Portsmouth Live TV or an article for The News and a creative idea to benefit the city, ie, Fratton Art.
All participants will receive tangible accreditation for their completed passports and there will also be a number of special prizes for outstanding performances. Watch this space to see what the young people of Portsmouth have produced.
